I am seriously excited for this Christmas season, and I hope you are, too. Advent seems wearying when I first start seriously thinking about it during October, like anger at Christmas songs in stores after Halloween, but once we get into the swing of it, it’s always exciting, and this time more so.
Partially that is due to the birth of my daughter. Christmas as a parent is a whole new experience for me, but this year it is also due to a change in tone.
We have, since I’ve been here, traditionally walked the path of Advent as a journey of desperate longing, recalling the oppressed of Israel calling for their savior as we remember that we, sinners, are also desperate for Jesus Christ to come.
But this year, I want to take the spirit of the season of gleeful, almost painful anticipation, like the kids who watch the packages slowly accumulate underneath the tree and who stare at advent calendars with those wide eyes that can’t BELIEVE that there are still weeks left.
We also will be inviting new members to join us this year, along with a couple of baptisms, that we will be celebrating on December 18th.
There is a LOT going on, a lot to do, a lot to see. How couldn’t we be excited!?
I hope you’ll join us.
