People who have been tracking the new Website since it went live have probably been wondering when I would get around to writing the first Blog entry, since we’ve had this on the site for awhile with no content. The truth of the matter is that I wasn’t entirely sure what this blog should be ABOUT, when you get right down to it.
What I am going to go for, and we’ll see how this works, is a place where I write about different thoughts and concepts I have been wrestling with lately. We’ll see how it all goes.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about change, as those who follow my sermons have probably noticed. It comes with spring, when new life fills the air (and irritates our allergies) and also with new members we’re adding through confirmation and the like.
People are scared of change, just like those allergies, because change means a departure into the unknown. But life IS change. A church that doesn’t change is a church that doesn’t grow. Instead of being a vibrant faith community, it is a museum, dead, dusty, and carefully preserved.
This doesn’t, of course, mean that we get rid of things just for the heck of it. Life grows as it grows, in fits and spurts, organically. We can no more rush it without dying than we can stop it. All of this to say, don’t fear the change. Walk with it, watch it, enjoy it, and above all else, take part in it.
God bless, and more to come! We’ll aim for around monthly.
